Financial contributions
US$ 9 billion has been invested in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative since its launch in 1988. These contributions have reduced the incidence of polio by 99% and built an infrastructure used beyond the scope of polio eradication.

In-kind contributions
Within countries, financial contributions are supplemented by in-kind contributions such as the time spent by volunteers, health workers and others in the planning and implementation of supplementary immunization activities. These contributions are estimated to have a dollar value approximately equal to that of international financial contributions.
Donor profile
In addition to contributions by national governments to their own polio eradication efforts, 52 public and private donors have each given more than US$ 1 million to the global programme, with 21 of these having given US$ 25 million or more.
